Electronic Data Interchange (EDI)

In fact EDI is one part of a more comprehensive concept of EC (Electronic Commerce), which is one of the most rapidly evolving areas of business and technology. EC means that parties in a business community will conduct different kinds of business transactions concerning trade, transport, finance or any other functions electronically. Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is the exchange of business information electronically between business partners (and possibly intermediaries) in a structured format. Because of the structured format, electronic documents can be transmitted from one computer application to another computer application without manual rekeying. EDI is not facsimile transmission, in which unstructured data is sent from one facsimile machine to another. Facsimile transmission requires rekeying by the receiving party before the data can be used by a computerized business application
